Canadian Pacific
Canadian Pacific was established in the 1880s to build a rail link from Eastern Canada to British Columbia. Canadian Pacific pencils were manufactured by Dixon, Venus, Eagle and the Canadian Pencil Co. in several paint colors. Typically, these are HB writing pencils that show the manufacturer and the words "Canadian Pacific" printed in the centre of the pencil.
Canadian National Railways
|
Canadian National (CN), Canada's largest railway, was referred to as "Canadian National Railways" (CNR) between 1919 and 1960. They purchased CNR branded pencils from various Canadian manufacturers. The "Canadian National System", as some of these pencils are labeled, included railways, hotels and other Canadian National infrastructure.

S-303-HB
S-311 Red Checking Pencil
The only CN pencil that I've seen that has an end cap. Also, this pencil is just stamped CN instead of CNR or CNS. It is a hexagonal pencils with a red lead that is probably a newer pencil.
S-315 Soft Copying Pencil
The S-315 is a soft copying pencil. Earlier versions had "Canadian National System" printed on the side and later versions had the familiar "Work in Safety" slogan.
S-316 Hard Copying Pencil
The S-316 is a hard copying pencil with a standard sized core. Some of these pencils have "hard copying" stamped on the side.
S-317 Medium Copying
The S-317 is a Medium Copying pencil. This is an older version as it says Canadian national Railways instead of Canadian National System on it.
S-318
The S-318 has a soft thick core. Perhaps somewhere in the 2B to 4B range.
S-320 Blue Checking Pencil
S-321 Red Checking Pencil
Be a CN booster 48-87-443
A pencil with a natural finish, otherwise identical to the 48-87-450 seen below.
Be a CN booster 48-87-450
This is a newer hexagonal pencil. At least some of these pencils were manufactured by Dixon in Canada despite not saying Made in Canada on the pencil. Some of these pencils said "Sell CN services" and others said "Be a CN booster" with the French translation on the opposite side. A similar version of this pencil with a natural finish instead of a white finish had the number 48-87-443.
Be a CN booster 48-87-457
This is a newer hexagonal pencil painted black with a silver imprint. It has one side in English and the reverse in French. The ferrule looks like this might be made by Berol as it looks suspicously like a Berol Electronic Scorer 350 or Berol Turquouise drawing pencil.
