Empire Pencil Company of Canada

The Empire Pencil Company came to Canada later than other brands. They appear to have produced pencils in Quebec in the early 1970s. Empire Pencil Company was a division of Hasbro Industries (Canada) Ltd. based in Longueuil, Quebec. Hassenfeld Brothers (which was renamed Hasbro in 1968) expanded to Canada with Hassenfeld Brothers (Canada) Ltd. in 1961. There was a reference to Empire Pencil Company being located in Longueuil, Quebec in a 1971 newspaper article. Another article in May 1971 referred to the "Empire Pencil Co., Jacques-Cartier, Quebec" as one of five Canadian "manufacturers in the wood pencil business".  I'm not sure if the factory was here or just the headquarters (Hasbro Canada Corp. headquarters is still in Longueuil). Hasbro spun off Empire Pencil in 1980. Empire Pencil bought the Berol Pencil Company in early 1987. In the mid-1990s, Sanford bought numerous pencil companies including Empire-Berol.
